Shivambu Accuses Zuma Allies Of Looting R7 Million Monthly From MK Party
Former uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party secretary-general Floyd Shivambu has vowed to remain with the Jacob Zuma-led MK party, despite considering forming a new party.
Shivambu was recently dismissed as secretary-general after a controversial trip to Malawi to visit Shepherd Bushiri, and his announced redeployment to parliament has not occurred.
During a press briefing held at the Mhulu Luxury Boutique Hotel in Midrand on Thursday, 19 June, Shivambu claimed that his removal stemmed from allegations by the party’s National High Command that he was plotting to unseat Jacob Zuma as MK party leader. Said Shivambu:
An extremely bizarre and fake intelligence report was produced, which was claimed to be a conversation between me and some people in the African continent, where it alleged that despite raising money to remove president Zuma, I’m also accumulating supernatural powers to make people disappear.
He alleged that Zuma is surrounded by "political scoundrels" who exploit Zuma's "kindness" and "gullibility" to siphon R7 million from MK party coffers monthly.
Shivambu claimed that the party’s treasurer-general was forcibly removed to facilitate the alleged looting of MK party resources.
He ruled out returning to the EFF, calling it a "cult," and dismissed joining the ANC, describing it as "directionless" and "captured by white interests."
The former EFF Deputy President said he is not forming a new party "just yet" but plans a consultative process with traditional/religious leaders and prominent South Africans, with the decision on a new party dependent on feedback.
He said a political party should not be an "individual project," "family project," "tribal or ethnic project," or started for personal gain/as a cult. Said Shivambu:
I have not resigned from uMkhonto weSizwe, and I will never resign from uMkhonto weSizwe.
