PM: 27 December 2025 Joint Border Statement Holds, Sustains Path to Resolution

(Takeo): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that to date, neither the Thai government nor its military has rejected the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Statement issued on 27 December 2025. This position aligns with that of the Royal Government of Cambodia and serves as a key basis for resolving border issues. The premier spoke on Saturday (Apr. 11) during a groundbreaking for the construction of the section II of the Funan Techo Canal in Takeo province. Despite existing disagreements over certain areas, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet noted that both Cambodia and Thailand share important common ground, allowing dialogue to continue. “If we disagreed on everything, progress would be impossible. But agreement on key principles keeps the door open,” he said. Samdech Thipadei outlined two main shared positions: a commitment to peaceful resolution, with Cambodia maintaining that disputes should be addressed through international law, treaties, and established agreements. This approach aligns with Thailand’s policy direction under Anutin Charnvirakul, which also emphasises settlement through bilateral mechanisms; and respect for existing agreements, as Cambodia continues to uphold prior accords, including the Kuala Lumpur Agreement (26 October) and the 27 December Joint Statement, which Thailand has neither rejected nor disputed and has repeatedly reaffirmed. Prime Minister Hun Manet added that these shared principles should guide both countries toward a timely resolution through legal and technical processes, rather than unrealistic expectations. It should be noted that the Joint Statement between Cambodia and Thailand on 27 December 2025 underscores the importance of dialogue conducted in a spirit of mutual trust, goodwill, fairness, and respect, in line with the principles of the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, aiming to advance peace and cooperation between the two nations.=FRESH NEWS
