PM Ali Al Zaidi invites diaspora Christian Businessmen to invest in Iraq
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi visited St. Joseph’s Chaldean Catholic Church in Baghdad’s Al-Mansour neighborhood on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. The high-level visit was arranged to congratulate His Beatitude Mar Maroun Pauls III Nona (born Emil Shimoun Nona) following his election by the Chaldean Synod and confirmation by the Holy See as the new Patriarch of the Chaldean Catholic Church in Iraq and the world, succeeding Patriarch Louis Raphaël Sako.
According to a press release from the Prime Minister’s media office, al-Zaidi emphasized his administration’s deep commitment to preserving Iraq’s diverse social fabric. He described the Christian community as an essential, indigenous component of Iraqi society. During his address at the cathedral, the Prime Minister extended an official invitation to expatriate Christian business leaders and investors, urging them to return to the homeland and actively participate in national development, infrastructure rebuilding, and economic diversification projects.
For his part, Patriarch Pauls III Nona welcomed the premier and extended his formal blessings to al-Zaidi following his recent parliamentary confirmation and the establishment of the new government cabinet. The Patriarch expressed his well-wishes for the Prime Minister’s success in navigating the state’s financial and sovereign challenges during the upcoming legislative term.
