Police suspect crime in Käpylä apartment fire
Police in Helsinki are investigating a fire that destroyed a protected wooden apartment building in the Käpylä district after evidence pointed to a cigarette left on a porch as the likely cause.
The blaze broke out shortly before 1pm on Thursday at a residential property on Peltolantie in the historic Puu-Käpylä area, sending thick smoke across the neighbourhood and prompting emergency warnings for nearby residents.
Firefighters, police and ambulance crews were dispatched after reports of flames on the porch of the building.
