Three killed, four injured in residential explosion in United States city of Dallas
At least three people were killed and four others injured after a powerful explosion followed by a fire ripped through a residential building in Dallas, according to local authorities.
Emergency crews recovered the bodies of two women and one child from the debris after hours of rescue operations, while the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a gas leak may have caused the explosion before flames rapidly spread through the building. Fire officials said search-and-rescue teams remained at the site even after the fire was brought under control to ensure no one else was trapped beneath the rubble.
Witnesses said the blast was heard across several parts of the neighbourhood, with the impact shaking nearby homes and buildings.
City officials in Dallas expressed condolences to the victims’ families and said an investigation into the exact cause of the incident was continuing.
Gas-related explosions in residential buildings remain a recurring safety concern in several parts of the United States, where ageing infrastructure and faulty utility systems have previously caused deadly incidents and large-scale evacuations.
In recent years, emergency authorities across the US have increased inspections and public safety campaigns aimed at preventing gas leaks, particularly in older apartment complexes and densely populated urban neighbourhoods.
