Saudi researchers develop energy from traffic

MAKKAH: Researchers from Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah have developed a concrete barrier capable of generating electricity from air currents produced by vehicle movement on roads. The innovation was developed by College of Engineering and Architecture faculty member Raed Shalwala, and Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Director Fadi Almarghlani, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The system harnesses airflow generated by traffic through an integrated design within concrete barriers, converting kinetic energy into usable electrical energy.
