He killed three people and tried to kill a fourth — yesterday the court made sure Elmer Nah will answer for every single one
By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): After three years of waiting, the Ramnarace and Belisle families received the verdict they had long prayed for yesterday afternoon outside the Belize City High Court.
Elmer Nah was found guilty of the murders of Jon, David and Vivian Ramnarace, as well as the attempted murder of Yemi Alberto. The verdict came after the trial judge spent nearly three hours reading a detailed 60-page judgment outlining the evidence and legal findings that led to the conviction.
Central to the court’s decision was the dying declaration given by Vivian Ramnarace before her death, along with video evidence presented during the trial. The judge described Vivian as a credible and truthful witness despite her critical condition when she provided her account of the attack.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Vivian’s sister, Vashti Belisle, said the verdict brought a sense of relief and gratitude after years of pain and uncertainty.
“We are overwhelmed, grateful and thankful. Vivian really played the most significant role in convicting her murderer and her husband’s murderer and her brother-in-law’s murderer,” Belisle said.
Despite the conviction, she acknowledged that no verdict can erase the devastating loss suffered by the family.
“A child has to grow up the rest of her life without her mom and her dad, but I am glad that justice was served, especially for her today. I am proud of my sister. She was fearless. She was brave, very, very brave.”
Belisle said the family is prepared for the possibility of an appeal and remains committed to seeing the case through to its conclusion.
“We are in it for the long haul, and we are here for however long,” she said.
Elmer Nah is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on June 18.
