Saturday starts with sun but do not be fooled; Showers thunderstorms and a wet night are coming for Belize today

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Saturday is beginning with sunny skies across much of Belize, but forecasters say residents should not let the pleasant morning conditions fool them. According to Derrick Rudon of the Belize National Meteorological Service, relatively moist and unstable conditions continue to dominate the region, setting the stage for unsettled weather throughout the day and into tonight. This morning, northern Belize is seeing the most active weather, with showers, periods of light rain and isolated thunderstorms already developing across that part of the country. As the day progresses, the focus of the activity is expected to shift inland during the afternoon before moving southward tonight. Forecasters say tonight will bring mostly cloudy skies with showers and thunderstorms developing over southern areas before spreading along the coast later in the evening. Temperatures today are expected to reach 93 degrees Fahrenheit inland, 88 degrees along the coast and 80 degrees in the hills. Combined with elevated humidity levels, conditions will feel warmer than the actual temperatures suggest. Meanwhile, a Small Craft Caution remains in effect for Belizean waters. Winds from the southeast are blowing at 10 to 15 knots, generating choppy seas with wave heights of three to five feet. Mariners are also being warned that winds can become gusty and seas locally rough near heavy showers and thunderstorms. Fishermen and small vessel operators are being advised to exercise caution before heading out to sea. Today’s tides include a high tide at 8:43 this morning, a low tide at 4:19 this afternoon and another high tide at 10:29 tonight. The sun rose at 5:17 a.m. and will set at 6:23 this evening. Looking ahead to Sunday, little change is expected. Similar weather conditions are forecast to continue through the day and into Sunday night, meaning Belize’s wet and unsettled weather pattern is likely to persist throughout the weekend.
