Parliament asked to back process, not Independence, on the Bougainville vote
Members of Parliament have been urged not to confuse today's vote on a Sessional Order with a decision on Bougainville's political future, as the National Parliament prepares to begin formal consideration of the 2019 Bougainville Referendum result.
Government leaders stressed that the matter before Parliament is not a vote on Bougainville's independence but a procedural motion establishing the process and timetable for Parliament to consider key documents related to the referendum at a later date.
