Jordan Says Three Iranian Missiles Land on Its Territory

Jordan said three missiles launched from Iran landed in different parts of the country early Sunday without causing casualties, as the military confrontation between Iran and the United States continued to expand across the Middle East. Jordan’s military said the missiles fell in separate locations across the country during the early hours of July 12, according to an official military source cited by Al Jazeera. Authorities said no deaths or injuries were reported but did not specify the missiles’ intended targets or whether they had been intercepted before impact. The incident came as Iranian state-affiliated media reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had targeted Jordan’s Prince Hassan Air Base, claiming the attack struck facilities allegedly used to support U.S. military drone operations. The reported missile landings coincided with a sharp escalation in hostilities between Washington and Tehran. Earlier Sunday, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces carried out a third consecutive round of strikes against Iran, targeting about 140 military sites. According to CENTCOM, the strikes hit missile and drone facilities, naval assets, ammunition depots, communications infrastructure and coastal surveillance positions. The U.S. military said more than 300 military targets have been struck during three nights of operations aimed at degrading Iran’s military capabilities and protecting commercial shipping. The latest exchanges follow heightened tensions in and around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes. Washington has accused Iran of threatening international shipping and attacking commercial vessels, while Tehran has rejected those allegations and said its military operations were carried out in response to recent U.S. strikes inside Iran. The regional fallout has extended beyond Jordan. The United Arab Emirates said Saturday that its air defense systems intercepted missiles and drones launched from Iran, adding that explosions heard in parts of the country were caused by interception operations. Emirati authorities did not immediately provide details on the number of projectiles intercepted or any damage. Jordan has sought to avoid direct involvement in the widening confrontation. However, its location between Israel, Iraq and Saudi Arabia has repeatedly exposed it to missiles and drones crossing regional airspace during periods of heightened conflict.
