Heat warning for Limerick extended amid drought fears
A HOT WEATHER warning issued for Limerick has been extended as scorching temperatures are set to reach 29 degrees this Sunday.
Met Éireann issued the latest in a string of hot weather warnings for Limerick on Friday, as temperatures soared, along with the threat of heat stress and forest fires.
The Status Yellow high temperature warning came into place at lunchtime on Friday and was expected to expire this Sunday morning.
Now, the weather service has extended the Status Yellow warning with two new warnings, one coming into effect from 1pm this Sunday afternoon and lasting into tomorrow (Monday) morning at 7am. The second will come into effect from 1pm on Monday and be in place until 7am on Wednesday.
Temperatures are expected to peak at 29 degrees in Limerick today, with overnight temperatures at high as 17 to 19 degrees.
Monday and Tuesday will see highs of 25 to 26 degrees with 17 to 19 degrees expected overnight.
Today’s weather warning is in place for Limerick, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary, Galway, Mayo, Kilkenny, Laois, and Offaly. Monday’s high temperature alert covers Limerick, Cork, Kerry, Galway, and Mayo.
Met Éireann has warned of the possibility of forest fires and drought due to the continued hot weather, along with heat stress, uncomfortable sleeping conditions, and water safety issues due to increased use of lates, beaches, and waterways.
This latest Status Yellow high temperature warning is the latest in a string of heat alerts from the weather service for Limerick, following warnings issued at the end of May and June when temperatures soared to around 30 degrees.
