Protected Areas Conservation Trust and APAMO renew strategic partnership to strengthen Protected Areas management in Belize

By Zoila Palma:  The Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) and the Association of Protected Areas Management Organizations (APAMO) reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Belize’s National Protected Areas System through the signing of a new three-year strategic partnership agreement on June 30, 2026. The agreement reinforces the longstanding collaboration between PACT and APAMO to enhance the effective management of Belize’s protected areas, with particular emphasis on supporting community-based organizations and non-governmental organizations that play a critical role as co-managers of these areas. PACT will continue to provide strategic financial support to APAMO to strengthen its institutional capacity, provide services to its members, and enhance its long-term organizational sustainability. The partnership will focus on advancing five key thematic areas: Institutional Capacities and Governance Protected Areas Management and Conservation Diversified Financing Solutions National Education, Engagement, and Advocacy Financial Sustainability of APAMO PACT and APAMO have developed a joint work plan that prioritizes strengthening governance and operational effectiveness, increasing public awareness and engagement on protected areas conservation, developing a sustainable financing strategy for the organization, and expanding technical and administrative support to member organizations through the APAMO Central Resource Center (ACRC).
