US restores Iran blockade after truce collapses
The United States has restored its naval blockade of Iranian ports and struck dozens of sites along Iran’s coast, while Tehran has launched missiles and drones at military facilities across the Gulf. The renewed fighting has pushed a June agreement between Washington and Tehran to collapse and increased risks for ships using the Strait of Hormuz.
US Central Command said its forces used aircraft, drones and naval vessels during a seven-hour operation that began early on Wednesday. The attacks targeted missile positions, drone facilities, naval equipment, air defences and coastal surveillance systems near the Strait of Hormuz and elsewhere along Iran’s southern coast.
