International News: Spain grants visa-free travel to citizens of 9 CARICOM countries

By Zoila Palma:  Spain has announced visa-free entry for citizens of 9 Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member states, allowing them to travel to Spain and other countries within the Schengen Area without obtaining a visa for short stays. The countries benefiting from the exemption are Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, The Bahamas, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Under the new policy, holders of ordinary passports from the approved countries may enter Spain for tourism, business, and other short-term purposes for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.  Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the measure forms part of its broader visa policy for countries that meet the requirements for short-stay visa exemptions. The announcement does not include several other CARICOM member states, including Belize, Jamaica, Guyana, Suriname, and Haiti, whose citizens will still be required to obtain visas before traveling to Spain.
