Rainfall to ease from Wednesday

File July 20, Kathmandu The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has said that rainfall is expected to gradually decrease from Wednesday onward. According to the department, the country is currently under the influence of monsoon winds, while the monsoon trough remains north of its average position, resulting in widespread rainfall. Senior Meteorologist Min Kumar Aryal said rain is likely across various parts of the country today and tomorrow, but precipitation is expected to gradually subside from Wednesday. He said there is a possibility of moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning this afternoon at a few places in the Himalayan region and at many places in the hilly region. The department has forecast moderate rainfall in many areas of the Tarai districts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as at a few locations in Madhesh Province. Light to moderate rainfall is also likely at a few places in the hilly and Tarai areas of Koshi and Sudurpashchim provinces. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two locations in the hilly regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces. Tonight, moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected at many places in the hilly and Tarai regions of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces. Similarly, a few places in the hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces are likely to receive moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning. Heavy rainfall may also occur tonight at one or two locations in the hilly and Tarai regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces. The department has urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert due to the risk of floods, landslides, inundation, and debris flows.
